July 2, 2012

To cope with expected summer electricity shortages, KEPCO (Kansai Electric Power Company) requested large-lot power users and households in its service area to voluntarily reduce electricity consumption between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. on weekdays from July 2 through September 7, 2012 (excl. August 13-15).

Although the request is not legally binding, cooperation throughout the region is needed.

In response to the request, the following measures, including those that are underway, are to be implemented in SPring-8 during the above period in cooperation with users.

– Reduced lighting (so long as it does not pose any health, safety and security risks).

– Sharing office machines (photocopiers, printers, etc.) to reduce the number in operation.

– Temperature setting at 28° C.

– Disabling extra elevators.

– All facilities and divisions closed for summer holiday (August 20-22).

– Other power saving measures that can be adopted at each office/lab.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
